Scott McCormick is a co-founder and managing partner of Vertex Investments. He has been working in commercial real estate for over 14 years. Starting in 2005, Scott worked 12 years for a national commercial real estate firm headquartered in Denver, CO. Scott underwrote on the order of a thousand deals worth billions of dollars from coast to coast. He managed the underwriting team for the company for several years as well, seeing a multitude of deals and passing his knowledge on to the newer employees. As an asset manager with the company, Scott directly managed over 4.0 million square feet valued at over $350 million of office, industrial, land and development projects. Scott managed properties in numerous markets across the country, including Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Omaha, Connecticut, Denver, Los Angeles and Sacramento. Scott was fortunate to see how easy real estate investing was in the good times of 2005-2007. But Scott received a doctorate in real estate investing through the downturn of 2008-2012, where the majority of his time was spent on receivership, workouts on loans with the lenders and strategically managing properties to maximize occupancy and net operating income. Outside of the company, Scott started buying residential houses, duplexes, and 4-plexes for rent in 2005, spent a couple years fixing and flipping houses and has recently expanded in to multifamily student housing and small industrial projects. Throughout his career and personal investing, the majority of his time has been spent on office, industrial and residential/multi-family assets with some additional experience in entitling land and development.
Scott earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics from John Carroll University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver. He is also a real estate broker. Scott is an avid skier and sport enthusiast with special interest in mountain biking, golf, baseball and professional sports.
